An essay exploring the history of quilting, principally the Amish tradition of geometric styles, to argue that women working in domestic, folk traditions arrived at a form of pure abstraction that challenges the accepted histories and meanings of modern abstract art.

About the Maker: Nicole Armour is a writer and bookbinder creating objects that explore late nineteenth and twentieth century art, literature, and history made by women. She aims to fuse the personal, political, handmade, accessible ethos of zines with the traditions and techniques of bookbinding in ways that complement both customs.
