PatchWork Vol.01
PatchWork is a collection of creative writing, illustration, and other artwork from my personal practice during my time in art school. The artworks I selected are pieces that never found a home outside of my journals and sketchbooks, but were very important to me in my development as an artist. I am very proud to present them together in this zine; when stitched together, they tell a story of resilience, resourcefulness, and finding comfort through creativity. Featured works range from ceramic sculpture explorations to poetic walks through my neighbourhood to wax crayon scribbles to instruction manuals for the depressed. The title “ PatchWork” connotes feelings of sentimentality, safety, and solitude, while the capitalized “W” honours women’s labour and feminist narratives.
About the artist: Abbie Mauno (BFA Visual Arts '23) is a zinemaker, ceramicist, and educator from Toronto. Her work blends 2D and 3D techniques to process and express personal experiences of coming of age, living with mental illness, relationships, and city life. She explores painful and vulnerable places with sentimentality, humour, and earnestness.
