Vittles #1
A magazine about modern food and culture. Vittles started as an online newsletter in 2020 by founder Jonathon Nunn. An erudite and essential indie food zine. "Vittles" is a culture publication masquerading as food writing.
In this Issue:
"Issue 1 has no set theme, but if it had one it would be "fun". Food can be many things in disguise - class, economics, migration, but it is also completely absurd, a testament to the extreme lengths to which humans have gone in order to make things delicious. This issue, fittingly, is filled with charlatans, hustlers frauds, arguments, and gossip: David Jesudason's barnstormer of an investigation into the organizations that run Britain's various curry awards; Sanam Maher's dispatch on the family who first brought sushi to Pakistan: and Aaron Timms's scathing report on the exploits of four of our most ludicrous exports - the food influencers Eating with Tod, Jolly, Topjaw, and Thomas Straker."
- Jonathon Nunn
Inside is also an interview with Fay Maschler conducted by Adam Coghlan and new food writing from the Croydon's Young Archivists project. Plus dinner party recipes, short stories, photo essays, puzzle pages, guides, and a baker's dozen of the essays Vittles has published online over the last half decade.
