Above The Fold #03
Above The Fold is a new publication all about dumplings and the folks who make them. It includes history, superstar dumpling-artists, how-to's, and recipes, all pleasantly collected in a zine-like booklet.
In this issue: The Art Of The Dumpling
This issue begins with a question—can the dumpling be considered a work of art? If so, what part makes it art? The finished product? The greater message conveyed by its creator? Or how the message is received by others? The lifetime of discipline and repetition that makes it all possible? Issue 3 examines the intersections between dumplings and performance art, social practice art, and sculpture, featuring on-location reporting in Curitiba, Brazil, and Fuzhou, China. Other highlights include personal essays exploring dumplings in the afterlife, preserving kueh-making in Taiwan, and the manti newspaper that circulated at the 2022 Istanbul Biennial. Plus a 16-page "art gallery in print".
