BranD #79
Issue #79 explores visual language within local Chinese cultures through the lens of contemporary designers, examining how these traditions sustain themselves amid homogenization and global influence in communication design. Highlights include chief curators on activating local culture through regional art festivals, reflections on how Chinese design elements can bridge cultures while embracing modernity, and an exploration of the visual world of Ku Shulan, the first Chinese artist honored by UNESCO as a “Master of China Folk Art and Crafts.” The issue also features in-depth conversations with designers on the inspiration and innovation gained by studying Chinese visual traditions, presenting 34 works from 10 design groups.
Distinct physical features of issue #79 include: Dragon scale binding, (a traditional method of bookbinding in China), 6 different book jackets of the magazine, and 2 posters inside!
