The Second Serve is a new tennis media company and lifestyle publication covering global tennis culture and the pro game through photography, illustration and writing.

Chock-full of art, photography, and exceptional storytelling, OPEN Tennis Volume 2 continues its vibrant exploration of tennis through the lenses of culture, fashion, travel, and ideas with three distinctive covers.

One cover features “Running Around Outside”, a vivid painting by visual artist Mairikke Dau. Another, captured in Sydney by photographer Adrian Mesko, comes from a stunning tennis-inspired fashion shoot. The issue is packed with rich visual features and in-depth pieces, including a tribute to the iconic Prince Original Graphite racquet, a spotlight on Russian up-and-comer Diana Shnaider, and our take on tennis content creation. There’s a beautiful photo essay shot at the Tennis Club Marfisa D’Este by Giasco Bertoli that was inspired by Giorgio Bassani’s The Garden of the Finzi-Contini, and another documenting sweltering nights in Queens at the US Open. We also take on court speed, the chaos sewn by lefties, and ask the question: Is tennis fun? Elsewhere we have a dispatch from Reigning Champ creative director Mike Belgue; the debut column to coaching guru Simon Hegelund, and Defector staff writer and longtime OPEN Tennis collaborator Giri Nathan profiles Japanese No. 1 Yoshihito Nishioka.
