MASOCHISM
This work reflects on desire, shame, intimacy and power, and the complicated ways these emotions and experiences can exist simultaneously within relationships. I have been thinking about what it means to hold vulnerability, discomfort, affection and connection all at once, and how intimacy can feel both tender and grotesque. When speaking about my work at markets, I often jokingly describe certain books as “for the freaks, affectionately.” This piece belongs in that category. It embraces confession, longing and imperfection through tactile materials and text-based storytelling. This miniature artist book measures 4 x 6 inches and contains 8 pages. Each book is screen printed by hand on Canadian linen, resulting in slight variations that make every copy unique.
