isolarii #17
The name isolarii originates from the Venetian tradition of 'island books'. Each issue of the magazine is dedicated to a singular idea/story.
In this issue: Dunderhead
Dunderhead is the English-language debut of the 92-year-old avant-garde Japanese writer Tomoko Yoshida: Three clinically precise stories of scarcity, pride, and resentment rooted in the afterlife of empire. Beneath the starkness of her world, there is a deep empathy fro the "dunderheands" who carry it. Written between1967 and 1977. Translated by Adam Sutherland
