Needlebound Volume. 3

Needlebound is an annual publication that archives and amplifies the online fiber arts community through print.

Founded by Hayley Mortin (Dazy Chains) in 2024, it exists as a deliberate counter-space to algorithmic curation as a a place where fiber artists control their own narratives, set their own terms, and appear in full complexity rather than flattened into content.

In Thread Geographies, the third volume of Needlebound, we turn our attention to the spaces that textiles occupy and create, both literal and metaphorical. Place, in the context of fibre and stitch, is never singular. It exists in the tension between the global and the intimate, in the distance between hand and material, in the threshold where body meets cloth, and, increasingly, in the mediated spaces of digital networks. These are not discrete categories but overlapping fields (like warp and weft) where every stitch is simultaneously a local gesture and part of a larger network, and where place is something we make with our hands even as our hands are shaped by the places we occupy.
