The second issue of Synonym celebrates the holy combination and ultimate comfort food rice & beans. Featuring stories on the culinary and linguistic trails of Akara (fritter) across the Black Atlantic, listening to ancient stories in the percussive process of bean drying, and Flavours From Afar, the LA based restaurant collaborative from refugee chefs. Also included: Palestinian Chef Fadi Kattan on the power of preservation, chewing fat with The Linda Lindas, and 100-year-old Ethel Shayne on her families migration from Baghdad to Kolkata to Los Angeles.
